Minnesota State of University Mankato provides its students D2L Brightspace, a web-based learning management system, to access their courses and classes online. It is a valuable and important e-learning tool for both the students and instructors to view the course content, share documents, view and update grades, participate in quizzes, and many more. Many professors also utilize the D2L Brightspace portal to communicate with Minnesota State of University Mankato students, distribute, and collect assignments, and other activities.
StarID for Minnesota State of University Mankato D2L Brightspace :
For access to your course materials and class online through Minnesota State of University Mankato D2L Brightspace, you can log in with your StarID and Password. The StarID is a random, and computer-generated 8-character identifier consisting of two letters followed by four numbers and then again followed by two numbers. The format is selected based on the analysis of usernames.
All students, staff, and faculty of the Minnesota State system are eligible for a StarID. Once issued, the user can use the same StarID to log in to all the participating institutions over the lifetime of their affiliation with Minnesota State.
Apart from D2L Brightspace, the same StarID can be used across Minnesota State to log in to many services including emails, campus computers, and printers, e-services, etc.
A StarID is issued to you at the first when you join or enroll in the university and register for classes. It can never be changed, duplicated, or reassigned.
How to Log In Minnesota State of University Mankato D2L Brightspace :
If you are an eligible faculty or student of the Minnesota State of University Mankato with the required login, you can log in to your D2L Brightspace account in the following steps.
- Visit the MNSU D2L Brightspace Login Website at d2l.mnsu.edu
- Click on the “Sign on with StarID” button in the middle of the box on the left-hand side of your screen.
- You will be directed to a ‘StarID Single Sign-On’ portal to enter your StarID and the password linked to it in their proper places.
- Click the “Sign on” button and navigate to the ‘My Courses’ widget to see your course.
Note that before logging in, you can go through a system check to ensure that your device and browser are properly configured to use the D2L Brightspace system. The link is provided just above the login box.
D2L Brightspace Non-StarID Login :
The students who do not have a StarID to access the Minnesota State of University Mankato D2L Brightspace for their online courses need to
- Go to d2l.mnsu.edu and click the “Non-StarID Login” link from the left.
- Enter your respective username and password in their fields after you reach the designated page.
- Click the “Log in” button to view your course, use the tools, features, and resources to customize your e-learning experience.

How to Recover Minnesota State of University Mankato D2L Brightspace Login
If you do not know your D2L Brightspace password or StarID or need to activate the StarID and set a password, you may take the steps given below.
- Visit d2l.mnsu.edu
- Click the “Forgot your password?” link posted under the sign-on button in the left box of the page.
- On the StarID Self Service portal, choose your preferred recovery option as per your need.
- “Reset my Password”, “Activate my StarID”, and “What is my StarID” options will lead you to the same page to select any of the authentication options.
- You have 5 options to like Tech ID/8-digit student ID, Email Address, Verification Code, State Employee Number, and the barcode from the Library card at your college or university.
- Enter the information according to your chosen option and select your College or University.
- Click the “Continue” button and follow the instructions on your screen to know or activate your StarID or reset the password.
If you already know the login credentials for your Minnesota State of University Mankato D2L Brightspace but want to change their password or other info you have to log in to your online profile. For that,
- Click the second box, “Sign in to Profile” on the StarID Self Service portal at starid.minnstate.edu
- Enter your StarID and password in their fields
